Breast Cancer - Don't be afraid, there is a cure!!!
YES !! Breast cancer may be the most common female cancer. Even today, it may be a disease about which scary stories are talked about. But the most important motto of us breast surgeons is this: Breast cancer will not cause any harm to an informed and intelligent woman. All women who have problems with breast cancer are very concerned about this issue. These are women who don't know anything and have unnecessary fears.
What you, like many of my patients, wonder about is whether there is a way to prevent breast cancer. The answer to this question is unfortunately no, even with current medical technology. So, like all women in the world, we cannot prevent you from getting breast cancer. However, you can only spend one day every six months to see your breast surgeon. If you do so, your diagnosis will be made as early as possible and you will be able to continue your life with much more beautiful breasts.
Breast cancer can be seen at any age and at any stage of life. Therefore, every woman, from young girls with mature breasts to post-menopausal women to our aunts, regardless of their age, should definitely not neglect an ultrasound check every six months and a mammography scan once a year after the age of forty. These follow-up criteria are strictly followed. SMART women who are alert, attend informational meetings and follow all the reminders about breast cancer do not need to be afraid of breast cancer. Because now, we ensure that the patient leaves the operating room with her breasts without causing breast loss, especially in patients with early diagnosis of breast cancer.
In these procedures called oncoplastic surgery, after the cancerous breast is emptied and breast cancer surgery is performed, we place silicone implants in the remaining space and allow the woman to continue her life without breast loss.
You can remove the breast of a woman with breast cancer and cure the disease. What about healing the patient?!! With oncoplastic surgery procedures, we can evaluate the patient as a whole with her physical, mental and social health and bring her back to life with her breasts. All you have to do is spend one day for this.
In addition, "preventive breast surgery", which has been on the agenda lately, should also be considered among these procedures. Without breast cancer yet; In the group of patients who have a family history of breast cancer and the results of some genetic tests are evaluated, both breasts can be emptied and a silicone implant can be placed. Thus, the woman will be able to live without the risk of breast cancer for the rest of her life. Preventive breast surgery should be performed after detailed discussion with your breast surgeon and only in people who meet certain conditions. It should also be noted that it is appropriate for women to feel lumps in their breasts, which quickly turns into fear and anxiety. However, we find cancer in only fifteen out of a hundred women with breast masses. In other words, 85% of breast masses are benign masses. That is why a lump in the breast or underarm is present. If we feel it, it is enough to consult our breast surgeon. Under today's diagnostic conditions, your surgeon can tell you in a very short time whether this mass is harmful or not. At this stage, we note that excisional (Open-Cutting) biopsy has almost no place for diagnostic purposes in all masses in the breast; instead, it must be done. I should also point out that thin or thick NEEDLE BIOPSY should be used.
Breast cancer and loss of life are words that we, breast surgeons, have not mentioned together for a long time. In my daily practice, after telling my patients that they have breast cancer and that they are not alone, I tell them that they will continue their lives with more beautiful breasts, and I routinely perform these surgeries on suitable patients. In this way, I not only treat the disease but also the patient. I am also improving it. Please remember!! Every patient with breast cancer deserves to continue life with more beautiful breasts and nothing will happen to a SMART woman from breast cancer.
